Soil CO2 efflux fluctuates in three different annual seasons in a semideciduous tropical forest in Yucatan, Mexico

چکیده

Tropical forest soils store a third of the global terrestrial carbon and control dioxide (CO2) effluxes to atmosphere produced by root microbial respiration. Soil CO2 efflux varies in time space is known be strongly influenced soil temperature water content. However, little about influence seasonality on efflux, especially tropical dry forests. This study evaluated temperature, volumetric content semideciduous Yucatan Peninsula under two sites (flat areas close far from hills), three seasons: dry, wet, early (a transition between rainy seasons) throughout year. Additionally, six 24-h periods were measured within these seasons. The mean annual was 4±2.2 ?mol m-2 s-1, like during season. In all seasons, increased linearly with moisture, which explained 45% spatial-temporal variation efflux. higher than hills some months. daily less important its spatial seasonal likely due small diel variations temperature. Transition seasons are common many forests, they should taken into consideration have better understanding future climate-change scenarios.

Tree regeneration in felling and natural treefall disturbances in a semideciduous tropical forest in Mexico

Tree regeneration was compared among closed-canopy sites and 4±11-year old natural and felling gaps in a selectively logged semideciduous tropical forest in southeastern Mexico. Closed-canopy sites and gaps were selected strati®ed randomly. In addition, all large natural and felling gaps encountered were sampled. All stems 5 cm dbh were sampled in sets of 10 m plots in closed-canopy sites and g...

Wood CO2 efflux in a primary tropical rain forest

The balance between photosynthesis and plant respiration in tropical forests may substantially affect the global carbon cycle. Woody tissue CO2 efflux is a major component of total plant respiration, but estimates of ecosystem-scale rates are uncertain because of poor sampling in the upper canopy and across landscapes. To overcome these problems, we used a portable scaffolding tower to measure ...

No evidenc...
